Prestigious IMS Certification
SED has reached a landmark on being recommended for IMS certificate by TUV India, which is an arm of internationally acclaimed testing and accreditation house, TUV-NORD Group.
IMS stands for Integrated Management System. It is the combination of ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:2004 and OSHAS 18001.2. Our IMS certification includes all these certificates which we had secured individually earlier.
Enormous amount of efforts have been put in by each and every member of the division, in terms of preparing the manuals following of the procedures and undergoing a series of internal audits as a preparation for the final external audits.
The team at the division recognises that this is just the beginning of the journey and there are miles to go for bringing about quantum improvements in the business performance.
Mr. Dara Byramjee-VP and Business head of the division is confident that if all members of the division work with the high level of dedication and zeal which they had displayed in pursuing this certification in future as well then they will be able to take the division to greater heights of success in future.
All members of the division deserve a big thank you from the management team but special thanks are due to Mr. Dominic Sequeira and Mr. Cyrus Shastri for over seeing the project with great passion and drive.
SED feels that our other business divisions should also pursue IMS certification, as it will save them cost and efforts of having three individual audits besides conserving time and energy of the auditing agency. The integration ensures a sharp focus on key issues pertaining to quality environment and health and safety in an integral manner as opposed to individual.
The integration brings about a sense of completeness about the things to be done and managed by employee’s day in and day out. Key parameters that affect the business get duly aligned resulting in focus on priorities… across the division.
IMS certification is highly recommended.
SED team will be happy to make a presentation to any division that is interested to enable them to take a call for pursuing IMS certification.

Corrosion Free Refrigerators: Internal Launch
Godrej Appliances is known for offering
relevant technology to its consumers.
ZOP technology stands for Zinc Oxide Protection: in addition to the standard powder coating done on refrigerators, a coating of Zinc is used to ensure Rust Protection. This double protection has led the company into issuing ten year rust free warranty on all ZOP models. No other company in the category has made such a claim before this.
The new technology was presented in the sales meet of the Appliances Division held on 7th April, amidst much fanfare, to create excitement amongst the sales team and establish the division’s expectations from the range.
The new proposition was a well kept secret from the sales team, and was revealed only at the presentation. The show began with an exciting audio visual depicting a war scene and the final victory which unveiled the new technology, followed by a pledge taking ceremony promising victory in this ‘Zung Par Jung – Fight against Rust’. Mr. Shyam Motwani, V.P. Marketing & Exports, enthused the team with the ‘Rust Free’ claim and said, ‘The initiative has the potential of recreating the magic of PUF.’ Mr. Kamal Nandi, V.P. Sales, fuelled the enthusiasm of the sales team by gifting them mini-canons – as a symbol of the ‘Jung’. He held the view that ‘ZOP Technology preventing rust will be a clear differentiator in the consumer’s mind.’
The anchor interviewed the sales team to capture their reactions and found the mood upbeat & positive regarding the success of the ZOP technology and the Rust Free Promise in the market.
Godrej Microwave Ovens: A New Outlook
The newest product in the portfolio of the Appliance Division, the entire range of microwave ovens is creating waves in the market. The range includes 5 models: 20L Solo, 20L Grill/Combination, 23L Grill/Combination (Steel Finish), 30L Convection (white finish), 30L Convection (Steel Finish). The products were made available in Nov/Dec across India.
We have always believed in offering our consumers relevant benefits backed by relevant technology. Godrej Microwave Ovens come with the “Power Wave Technology”. This technology traps in the nutrients by its fast target action and, its uniform cooking retains the goodness of food.
A starter kit containing a set of good looking microwavable containers, idli maker etc. is given free with the Microwave Ovens. The highlight of the starter kit is a very unique cook book. This cook book has recipes contributed by 8 chefs from top Five Star Hotels across India. Godrej has been able to capture the experience and the expertise of 8 chefs in one book.
Our Microwave Ovens need adequate exposure so that, people recognise the fact that Godrej is into Microwave Ovens. Hence, to generate such awareness, sets of Ground Level activation programs have been initiated. “Microwave Ovens are used for reheating only”, is a myth that Godrej aims to break through its Microwave Oven Cookery demos. These demos have been conducted in Mumbai, Delhi and Pune. Recipes, which are not generally, associated with Microwave Ovens like Gajar ka Halwa, Frittata (Italian Omlette), and Bharwaan aloo ki tikki etc. have all been demonstrated. This has surprised people and in fact, some people have bought the Microwave Ovens after tasting the delicious food prepared in it.
After seeing the positive response of the demo, we realised that it is very important for more people to know that Godrej is into Microwave Ovens. As a step towards this direction, we had a press meet in Chennai where, we launched our Microwave Ovens. This was a very unique press meet as, we had Chef Elango (a 5 Star Chef who was also a contributor to our cook book) from The Radisson making grilled potatoes (Urali Roast) and Fish Baked in Banana Leaf in a Microwave Oven. The nutritionist, Mrs. Sushila was also present. She explained the safety and health benefit of Microwave Cooking to the press. The combination of Chef and the nutritionist really enthralled the press. Godrej Microwave Ovens received extensive coverage in over 15 leading dailies in the south. The Metro plus supplement of The Hindu has written a prominent article on the event, our cook book was so much that, the newspaper has expressed a desire (in print) of the book to be freely made available.
Undoubtedly the process of bringing Godrej Microwave Ovens at the centre of Indian cooking has truly begun.
MATERIAL HANDLING & EQUIPMENT Division
Behaviour Based Safety
GODREJ has demonstrated a sustained improvement in its Occupational, Health
It is also evident that the main cause of Accidents is the Attitude of the people of the organisation towards Safety. Attitude of people is INVISIBLE and is demonstrated by the behaviour of person. Behaviour of the person is influenced by the attitude and this unsafe behaviour of persons involved in accident can be measured and corrected and the ultimate goal of cultural change can be achieved.
Continuing the efforts in this direction Godrej has once again taken a step further to attack the Unsafe behaviour and reduce the number of accidents by going in for this cultural change through BEHAVIOUR BASED SAFETY.
A two-day training programme by CHILWORTH was organised on 17 & 18 Feb 2006 at CII and was attended by All OHS heads and managers from maintenance and other departments.
It is decided that Behaviour based safety approach will be adopted for 2006-07 for improving safety and health for all plants.
Industrial Cleaning Systems
Godrej MHE Joins Hands With World Leader Tennant, USA.
Material Handling Equipment Division of Godrej is a market leader in providing material handling solutions across the industries for over four decades. Continuing with tradition of providing industrial solutions to various industries, we have tied up with Tennant to provide Industrial Cleaning Equipment & cleaning solutions to help industries to create clean and safe environment. Godrej is deeply committed towards clean, healthy work place and green environment.
Tennant solutions offer a combination of:
The Industrial Cleaning Equipment market is at its nascent stage in India. The concept of clean workplace and environment has become a concern for all across industries. However, there is some reluctance to invest money in mechanised cleaning. There is need to educate the customers about the benefits of clean, lean and green workplace and environment through seminars and articles. This industry is expected to grow at the rate of 40% annually for the next five years. Tennant has many machines in use in India.
We announced our tie up with Tennant for Industrial Cleaning Equipment in India at the Clean India Show, Bangalore – Feb, 2006. The exhibition gave us an ideal opportunity to declare our entry into the industry. It was a good experience for us and visitors showed keen interest in the Tennant product range.
In the first year, we will focus on providing training to our people in sales and service, in collaboration with our principal. We will create awareness across the industries about our presence in the Industrial Cleaning Equipment space through advertisements in various industrial magazines, mailers, product write-ups, exhibitions and personal visits.
Also to begin with we will provide after sales support to existing Tennant customers in India and then we will embark on an aggressive selling initiative to attain at least 10% market share by the end of the year.
The International Guwahati Trade Fair
Trade fairs and exhibitions are extremely
profitable ways to bring our brand in front
The Retailing Division along with Guwahati branch FIG team participated in the Trade Fair. The Fair was held from 20th of February to 6th of March 2006. The fair is very popular in the city with extremely good participation from companies and great response from the customers. The fair had very good participation as not only all the major appliance companies of our country such as LG, Samsung, Haier amongst others were there but there were participants from Thailand, Bangladesh, Iran and Vietnam.
Needless to say, the customer response to the fair in general and the Godrej stall in particular was tremendous. The Godrej stall booked over 15 lakhs at the exhibition. This has been the second year of our participation where we bettered our last year’s business figures of Rs 13 lakhs. The period of the exhibition coincided with FIG’s (Home) “Furniture Khareedo Cash Jeeto” scheme, which added to the advantage. DVDs, Microwaves, Refrigerators and ACs from Appliance division and Rhino safes, Electronic Treasure chest, Saffires etc from Security Equipment division were also displayed, which gave the customers a One-Stop-Shop feeling at our pavilion. This one-stop-shop feel is just what the Godrej Retailing Division has achieved in the Godrej Lifespace showrooms all over the country.
However, the icing on the cake was when the Godrej pavilion was awarded the Best Pavilion for Interiors beating the many other contenders to the spot.
The response to the fair has truly proved that exhibitions are an ideal way in reaching out to the customer and that to in a profitable manner.
Brahmos Cruise Missile
February the 16th ’06 will go down in the history of Godrej, PCS division as a Red Letter Day as Mr. J N Godrej, Chairman and Managing Director, handed over the first flight-worthy hardware of Brahmos Supersonic Cruise Missile to Dr. A. Sivathanu Pillai, CEO & Managing Director, BrahMos Aerospace Pvt. Ltd., distinguished scientist & CCRD, DRDO.
This awesome supersonic Missile can travel at a great speed of 2.8 Mach and has a range of up to 300 Kms. It can be launched from various platforms — Ship, Land, Aircraft and Submarine. As on today, this is the only supersonic missile produced in the world. This missile is designed jointly by NPOM of Russia and DRDO, India. There are plans to equip our warships with this missile as well as create batteries of these missiles on land for strategic deployment.
Godrej-PCS, has been working on the development of this complex system for almost four years now. The system has more than 2000 intricate precision components and subassemblies.
The division had to master several new technologies for productionising this missile. Also Greenfield manufacturing facilities were required to be set up for its serial production.
All this has been achieved with the unstinted support of the top management; hard work of members of the division and of course the leadership of Mr. S. M.Vaidya-VP & Business Head of the division.
Hundreds of engineering standards and drawings were required to be translated and absorbed prior to production and likewise hundreds of fixtures required to be designed and produced for serial production.
