Nekshad Irani was born in Jamshedpur on 9th October 1994. His father works as a Sales Manager in Godrej Appliance Division & the family has to be on the move every 2/3 years. Yet it has not deterred the young boy to follow his dream. While in Pune, Nekshad had topped in the Maharashtra Mandal Sports Academy being the first Parsi boy to qualify for the award with his overall performance. At present in Nagpur he is a student of Centre Point (CBSE), Katol Road Branch,  studying in class 5.  Nekshad apart from A+ in academics also excels in Sports such as Speed Roller Skating and Cricket.  He won the RSFI (Roller Skating Federation of India) District Gold and Silver  medal to qualify for the State level competition, which was held at Nasik.  He came up with a superb performance winning Silver medal in the ‘Under-12’ years category.

In the Madhukarrao Padhye Memorial Inter school Cricket ‘Under -11’ years cricket tournament organized jointly by the Vidarbha Gymkhana and Karnewar Cricket Organizing Committee, Nekshad who is being coached in school as a ‘pace Bowler’ claimed 4 wickets. The school registered a thumping victory against Saraswati Vidyalaya chasing a total of 107 runs in 20 overs and Nekshad was given an individual prize of “Best Upcoming Cricketer” at the above tournament.

Chess Prodigy from FIG

As a gesture of love, affection and recognition of his marvelous achievements, Mrs. Veena Babbar (Delhi Branch) hands over a gift on behalf of the FIG team.

Master Rishi Thariani, (son of Mr. Sushil Thariani,our Delhi Branch FIG Head) all of 10 years has achievements par excellence in the game of chess. Read on for the amasing achievements this young lad has to his credit at such a tender age who also has been doing well in academics!

– International rated player - ILO rating of 1856

– Has been the state runner-up consecutively for last 2 years for Delhi state in U (under) 9 and U 11 age category. (2004 and 2005) and was selected to represent the State for the National Championship.

– Secured 8th position in the U 10 Asian Chess Championship held in 2005 in New Delhi in which about 120 players from over 14 countries participated.

– Secured 5th position in Dubai Juniors Chess Championship held in Dubai in July 2005 where over 90 players from over 18 countries participated.

– Has been awarded sports scholarship from his school  (Amity International school, Saket) for the year 2004-05 and 2005-06.

– Secured 1st position in the Delhi Chess Championship in U 18 category wherein about 35 players of Delhi participated in March, 2006.

– Has represented school in the CBSE inter-school chess championship (North zone) in 2004 and 2005 and the school was adjudged the North Zone Champion.

– Participated in World Juniors Chess Championship in July 2005 held in Belfort, France.

– Has won many other tournaments (inter-school etc.) organised in New Delhi.

– Secured 4th position in the NIIT North Zone School Chess Championship (where about 150 participants from schools in North India participated) and was felicitated by the World Champion and Grandmaster, Vishwanathan Anand in Sept 2005.

– Honoured with the Soonuben Award for Excellence in the Sports field in April 2006.
