The inaugural speech was delivered by F. K. Khapoliwalla, General Manager (West and East), who stressed the 100 years’ association of Godrej with the banking community and the shift from Physical Security Products to Electronic and Banking Automation Products. Sushil Kadam from Head Office, Marketing, gave a presentation on Currency Sorter. The products on display were Banding Machine, Currency Counting Machine, Fake Note Detector, Alarm Systems and Access Control Systems.

This is the first time ever that Godrej participated in an internal RBI Meet along with other Bankers, which has not only given the Security Equipment Division a big mileage, but also created awareness amongst Bankers of our products, especially the Currency Sorting Machine and the Banding Machine, and generated a number of enquiries. This would not have been possible without the excellent relationship and systematic approach of Maharashtra Branch personnel, Ravi Bhat, Branch Manager, Neville Irani, Assistant Manager and Anthony Fernandes, Sr. Sales Officer.

Maneck Engineer, Vice-President, Construction Department, is now Trustee of the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP). Maneck won the BPP election against veteran trustee Rustom Tirandaz on 26 October. Pheroza J. Godrej, wrote a letter to the Editor, Jam-e-Jamshed Weekly dated 27 October, some excerpts of which are reproduced below.

“Maneck, a talented and highly capable Civil Engineer and Architect, would be a major asset to any Trust, particularly one like the BPP with its vast and far-flung real estate to manage. As Vice-President, Godrej, I have seen him discharge all manner of responsibilities, including the responsibility of heading our Environment Department. The dedication required to fulfil this obligation can be gauged from the fact that Pirojshanagar is the only industrial township in Maharashtra to have obtained the ISO 14001 certificate … Maneck is also responsible for the gardening and afforestation of our township. Along similar lines he is currenly working on the afforestation of the Doongerwadi lands as well as on the vulture project.

“One of the first qualities that one notices about Maneck is his sincere desire to help fellow Zoroastrians and serve the community. He has the rare combination of high technical skills, dedication and integrity. Being a low-key person, Maneck leads by example and lets his actions speak for themselves.”

Dinosaur In Lucknow

Manoj Sadavarte, Branch Manager (second from right) and other Lucknow Branch employees with the awesome dinosaur outside the Godrej Showroom on the occasion of Diwali, 2 November, 2002.

Lucknow Branch came up with an innovative and cost-effective idea of advertising the Godrej Storwel.

On 2 November, 2002, Diwali day, the Branch hired a 9 feet tall inflated PVC/rubber dinosaur, well dressed with a motor inside to provide for constant inflation. The dinosaur’s movement was controlled by a man inside it — when he walked, the dinosaur walked. Apart from the POP material, which was hung on the dinosaur, it carried a banner strapped on its back displaying the Godrej Storwel scheme available at various outlets.

The dinosaur walked throughout the day till late in the evening, covering a stretch of 1.5 kms., to and fro the busy commercial areas of Lucknow where the Godrej Showroom is located. Its awesome presence attracted the revelling crowds and created awareness of the Storwel scheme giving upto Rs. 1,500/- discount on every Godrej Storwel. This yielded positive results by not only saving the cost of printing advertisements in newspapers, but also by generating enquiries culminating in orders.

The event, which was flagged off by Manoj Sadavarte, Branch Manager, Lucknow Branch, was part of the ongoing Festival Mela held at the Lucknow Branch Showroom where we had a grand display of Godrej products under a designer canopy. 2 November, 2002 is a day which not only the Branch, but the city shall remember.

Retailer Relationship Programmes

Locks Division organised two Retailer Relationship Programmes in October 2002 based on the theme, “Prosperity Through Partnership”.

The one-day programme through our Mumbai distributor, M/s. Yatra Arcade, was organised on 4 October, 2002 in which 25 retailers participated. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Sashi Kumar, Regional Manager (West), and a short introduction by the distributor and retailers. The Locks Division audio-video film was shown, followed by a presentation by Aspi Wadia, Assistant Sales Manager (Mumbai) on the current market scenario, new products and marketing initiatives. Retailers were taken to the Locks Product Showroom and to the Manufacturing Plant. This was followed by a tour of Pirojshanagar. The distributor gave away prizes to the retailers who had won in the coupon scheme operated in the market. The programme concluded with a feedback session with B.K. Rajkumar, Divisional Head, and presentation of mementos to retailers.

Another programme to foster retailer relationships was held on 17 October, 2002 with our Mumbai distributor, M/s Honesty Locks, one of our largest distributors in the country. M/s. Honesty arranged for 20 top retailers to visit the factory. It was heartening to note that these retailers, all of whom have 30 to 50 years of association with Godrej, took time off from their busy schedules to be with us for almost the whole day.  Incidentally, these retailers were all from the biggest wholesale market in the country and all of them unanimously appreciated the programme.

The distributors and our Mumbai sales team jointly worked to make both the programmes a great success.

Inside Outside Mega Shows

Inside Outside Mega Show is one of India’s largest events which showcases current trends in interior design, furniture, furnishings, building materials, construction and real estate. This premier trade show has, over the years, provided Godrej Locks a good forum to display the entire range of Locks as well as the Fiskars range of products to business professionals (architects, interior designers, builders, civil contractors, etc.) and the general public.

The show was held at Palace Grounds, Bangalore from 3rd to 6th October, 2002. Bangalore sales team led by Assistant Sales Manager, Mohan Kumar, along with our Locks dealer M/s. Heera Agencies, took the initiative in setting up and designing the stall. Also, Fiskars dealer, M/s. Marktech, set up Fiskars products for display and sale at the stall. Awareness of our “Ultra” range was found to be high amongst visitors in this city as compared to other places such as Hyderabad and Chennai where the Inside Outside Mega Show was held in September 2002 led by Assistant Sales Managers E.R.S. Reddy and Atul Dixit respectively. In Bangalore, visitors were more interested in the latest technology products looking for variations in features and size. There were queries for Multipoint locking and Electronic access control systems.

A section of the Godrej stall at the Inside Outside Mega show at Bangalore.

The exhibition was also held in Kochi at Jawaharlal International Stadium (Kalur) from 31st October to 3rd November, 2002. The stall was decorated with the help of our dealer, M/s. Alappat Agencies and the Kochi sales team. Total visitor inflow was around 2,000 with approximately 50 architects and builders visiting our stall. The new Mortise locks and handles range, including Multipoint Mortise was well appreciated along with other new products.

Our participation in the Inside Outside Exhibitions in the South has been effective in reinforcing the brand. The newly fabricated display stands were quite useful and visually appealing. Visitors were pleasantly surprised to see the entire range of Godrej Locks on display and how locks with different applications can provide solutions to their varied security needs. This interaction also helped us in getting valuable feedback on new products as well as our existing products, besides generating awareness amongst visitors.

Locks Division participated in the Inside Outside Mega Show in Mumbai as well at MMRDA grounds (Bandra-Kurla Complex) from 14th to 17th November, 2002.

Ramkrishna Agarwal of M/s. Yatra Arcade (Locks Distributor) and Mrs. Chedda of M/s. Shree Parshwa Agencies (Fiskars Distributor) along with the Mumbai sales team put up a stall displaying our products in this trade show.

Team members effectively solved customer queries and educated visitors on the range of products and the selection of locks. “Tribolt”, our unique unpickable Ultra lock with triple security features was the highlight of the Show.

Response Mela

Locks Division (Bhubaneshwar) took part in a 10-day gala exhibition from 4th to 13th October, 2002 held at Exhibition Ground, Bhubaneshwar.

Our stall was well located in the midst of stalls put up by architects, designers, builders and other hardware accessory stalls. This gave us good exposure among one of our target segments to boost Institutional Sales. Many of the top architects as well as builders visited our stalls and lot of enquires were generated for our Ultra range of Locks. A register was maintained to record response of customers about products displayed and for any customer complaints.

Both the exhibitions gave good exposure to our products and created brand awareness. Joint efforts put in by our Bhubaneshwar distributor, M/s. Maple Furniture, and our Locks Bhubaneshwar sales team contributed to the success of the exhibitions.
