A 100-Year Big Bang
Godrej Security Equipment Division recently completed hundred years of manufacturing security equipment. To commemorate the occasion, the Division organised a series of press and customer meets across the nation. The objective of these meets was also to create awareness about Godrej Security Equipment Division (SED) among the media and its customers along with the 100 years’ celebrations.
All the meets began with a unique skit depicting the importance of modern security products in homes today. This skit emphasized the need for Godrej security devices for homes. A fast-paced audio-visual film on Godrej Security Equipment Division (SED) retained the excitement levels of the audience.
The highlight of the event was unveiling of the 100 years’ Stamp for Godrej SED. The stamp was unveiled amidst thumping music, smoke, amazing lighting effects and glass shattering.
This was followed by presentations by D. E. Byramjee (Vice-President and Business Head) and N.S. Bachana (General Manager — Marketing) on Godrej: its history, achievements, milestones and future business plans. Various security products of the Division were also displayed at the events. In Mumbai, J. N. Godrej and P. D. Lam also graced the event.
We received very good media coverage across the nation, which in turn will help increase awareness about Godrej Security Equipment Division and its products amongst the masses. D.E. Byramjee was also interviewed on television, with Sun TV airing a full 10-minute interview with him on their breakfast show. Leading portals like Indiainfoline and amantran.com also covered the events. With over 150 articles appearing across the country in the leading mainliners and all the regional publications, the PR exercise was indeed impactfull. In fact it was an ideal case study of how awareness and brand building can be achieved in a cost-effective manner by non–conventional and innovative means of communication.
Our customers were also given demonstrations on the state-of-the-art security equipment on display. The products demonstrated included the popular range of AVANTI security doors for homes and offices, Rhino safes and ON GUARD electronic burglar alarm systems. Among the various other products on display were — CENTIGUARD fire-resisting safes, Godrej DEFENDER range of safes, FIRE DOORS, TRACKER Surveillance systems, NOTIFIER Fire alarm systems and SWIFT, CRUSADER Currency Counting Machines, Treasure Chest electronic Safe, Dataline — Date Safes, Eagle Fire and Burglar Alarm System.
We also had the pleasure of having some very important guests for the events. The event in Hyderabad was graced by A.K.V.S. Reddy, Director, Salarjung Museum, who gave a speech on the importance of modern security systems and Godrej’s role in protecting the Museum’s most cherished wealth i.e. the Nizam’s Jewels. The Honourable Home Secretary A.R. Deb in Kolkata also spoke to the press about the importance of security equipment in homes. In Delhi, Dr T.P. Sharma, Deputy Director and Head of Fire Research Laboratory — CBRI (Central Building Research Institute) spoke about the various fire testing methods, and the strategic tie-up between Godrej and CBRI for Fire Doors.

On January 28, 2002, Godrej and De La Rue held a joint presentation at the Taj Mahal Hotel. The product and the concept were well received by bankers from leading nationalised and private banks, who were present at the meet. We expect that in the coming year this initiative will not only give an impetus to this product category, but also to the Godrej brand.
