We Are In Love

Yes, we all Godrejites are in love with our special family named 
Godrej. And this fact is reaffirmed by thousands of employees on the occasion of the yearly Dassera-Diwali felicitation function.

In our daily work we hardly share this feeling with each other. In the routine rush for results we hardly pause to acknowledge these sentiments. Only the function provides a rare opportunity to celebrate our love for the Company and rejuvenate the very basis of our collective coexistence — our human relationship.

On that day the spirit of mutual love and respect is expressed in many forms ranging from very well-planned administrative arrangements by the organisers to highly spontaneous applause of the audience, and from sincere and soulful words of speakers to smiling and satisfying silence of listeners. We take the opportunity to cherish those fond memories of the event together.


Last Diwali Mr. Jamshyd Godrej shared his views in detail on the realities of the global economic scenario and its long term repercussions on industrial growth and market competition. He hinted that it would be an unaffordable mistake to underestimate the global challenges, and at the same time reminded Godrejites not to underestimate their own collective strength and potential. He expressed his full faith in their capability and invited Godrejites to unite together and strive for a better future. With his sensitive, firm, confident and positive foresight he won the hearts of all present.

Last year’s thoughts shared by the dignitaries on the occasion could be summarised for the future as: When the going gets tough, the tough get going; when the going gets tougher, the tough and smart get going; and when the going gets toughest, the team of tough and smart get going. Now let’s join hands in true team spirit and march forward with a firm conviction in the strong belief that TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE IT.

Building-related Products

Jaipur Branch participated in an exhibition arranged by Rajasthan 
Builders & Promoters Association from November 9-11, 2001. All the builder members of the Association, Architects and Interior Designers visited the Godrej stall and were all praise for products displayed. In this exhibition held at Birla Auditorium, the Branch displayed building-related products viz. Kitchen Cabinets, Avanti/fire door, VDP and newly launched Computer Furniture. We received a very good response.
Dealers functioning under Jaipur Branch met at Jaipur on November 21, 2001. The overall participation was approximately 75-80 per cent. Praveen Gupta, Branch Manager, welcomed all the Dealers. This was followed by a presentation from two Assistant Managers, Maninder S. Ahuja and Ishwar Pahlajani, who dealt with Project Management, Selling Skills, Negotiation, Need of the Hour — Change, Attitude, and gave a brief on Competition followed by a demonstration of new products. The result being that two of our Dealers from Sriganganagar and Sirohi responded positively and installed Kitchen Modules in their Showrooms. Other Dealers such as Sagar Engg. Co., Jodhpur, Jodhpur Metals Pvt. Ltd., Khandelwal Motors and Dhariwal & Co. also booked their requirements for new products.

In Rajasthan, Road Shows seem to have caught on in a big way. If it was Udaipur first, it was Jaipur next to organise a Road Show from November 22-24, 2001 at the famous Hotel Mansingh. All the new range of products were displayed along with the existing premium products.

On November 24, the final day of the Road Show, Customers assembled for the Meet at 7.00 p.m. Top executives of various segments were happy to put finishing touches to a well-organised programme.

Last November during Deepawali, our Udaipur Wholesale 
Dealer, M/s. Rajasthan Machinery Mart Pvt. Ltd., held their annual Road Show just outside their Showroom premises. They sent out a unique message depicting the theme ‘‘World Peace, Brotherhood and Love Brings Prosperity’’. 

The couplet in Hindi signified ‘‘Godrej — a sign of peace, progress and prosperity’’.

In a tastefully-decorated display, our Dealer depicted a huge model of the World Trade Centre lighted up against New York’s tall skyscrapers in the background. Godrej Office Equipment products were displayed in front. On the side of the WTC was a model of a white dove (symbolising peace). At the other end of the road, a live model of an aeroplane hitting the WTC was shown live to thousands of applauding visitors, and doves were released in the sky propagating world peace.

Godrej Office Furniture Division "Experience Centre" at Crossroads.

With the launch of the new range of Computer Furniture, Office Furniture Division has entered the highly potent “SOHO” (“Small Office, Home Office”) retail market in a big way.This market is not only highly volatile, but there are over a thousand different products and a million brands competing for that crucial 3 inches of the consumers’ mind.

Innovation leads to change… and so instead of only pulling the customer towards us, we decided to go where the customer is… and, by giving him something he least expects, create customer delight.
Keeping this in mind, we displayed the Companion Series of Computer Furniture at a premier show of a Marathi movie in Pune, the home of Marathi cinema. This not only catered to the awareness factor, but also gave the “touch” and “feel” experience to the consumer.
Taking the experience and knowledge factor further, during the festive and joyous occasion of Christmas and New Year, the Godrej Furniture Division “Experience Centre” was created for the first time at Crossroads. Targeting the elite Mumbaites and vacation shoppers in Mumbai, the ambience and the audience at Crossroads was an ideal platform for us to promote Computer Workstations.
At this “Experience Centre”, which was put up for 13 days, the product was not only displayed, but the customer could also get the feel of using our ergonomically-designed Computer Workstations and Chairs.
To top it all, the “feel good” factor — Workstations and Chairs were given away as raffle prizes every day!!
Now that’s Christmas… Godrej style.

Mega Show

Locks Division: Inside Outside Mega Show at Banglore.

Bangalore Branch reports of their participation in the ‘‘Inside Outside Mega Show’’ exhibition. This exhibition is unique in the sense that it is held throughout the year in different parts of the country being by far the biggest in display of Furniture items, Interior decoration and building materials. Locks Division participated at 13 different venues.

Bangalore Branch and their Locks Distributors, M/s. Shantilal & Bros., Heera Agencies and Marktech, did a commendable job in the display of Godrej Ultra range of Locks, E-Locks, Fiskars scissors and knives which received a good response from the general public, besides offering service for other Godrej products.

Innovative Promotions

Continuing with our trend of innovative pro-motions, and with a view to giving impetus to our new SOHO range, the Furniture Group decided to penetrate computer-training institutes with a big Byte.
Since this operation was piloted in Mumbai, which better institute to start with other than NIIT, Asia’s No. 1 Information Technology training institute, with more than 40 training centres in Mumbai, averaging to a student strength of 15,000.
A personalised letter was given to every NIIT student describing the entire range of Computer Furniture, which have undergone rigorous quality tests thus giving them the ‘‘Godrej’’ advantage and the NIITian the pride of ownership and the assurance of quality. There was an exclusive scheme for students (from February 1, 2002 to February 28, 2002) where they could avail of special prices on our Workstations and Chairs on producing this letter and their I-card to our dealers. This activity was the first of its kind for the Furniture Division, and is a tiny picture of the big things to come.

XLRI, the premier business management institute in the country, came up with a new administrative building where Godrej supplied Desk-cum-Chair in four of the classrooms. XLRI was so happy with the service rendered by Godrej that they decided to felicitate us. Recently, we were presented with a small memento by Father Augustine, Dean, XLRI. It was a rare honour bestowed on Jamshedpur Branch.

Godrej treats its customers with highest regard. To foster rela-tionships with its customers, Godrej had recently organised a customer meet at Hotel Regency at Bokaro. We gave a presentation as well as displayed our new range of products:
Storwel Group – Kitchen cabinet, glass and steel display unit.
Furniture Group – New computer furniture like buddy, companion, etc.
Security Group – Avanti door, CCM, Alarm system.
This was followed by dinner. Our efforts were appreciated by all participants.

The Locks Division has undertaken a unique task of organising craft competitions throughout the country. Recently, there was one held in Hyderabad at Gitanjali School. Approximately 200 students participated with great enthusiasm and zeal. We gave Fiskars Scissors (which we manufacture and market) to all the participants to use during the competition. Apart from prizes, a Certificate of Participation was given to all the students.
The Competition was a success, thanks to the initiative and hard work of our Hyderabad Branch personnel and our dealer Nirmal Marketing. It not only helped in publicising Fiskars products, but also in boosting our Company’s image.

Our Assistant Editor, Rashna Ardesher, was honoured with the Best Member of the Year Award 1999-2001 from the National Institute of Professional Secretaries (NIPS) on January 19, 2002 at the Indian Merchants’ Chamber. Her overall contribution, spirit of service, dedication and loyalty to NIPS were acknowledged.

Tuesday, January 1, 2002 was the New Year day for the entire world. For us at Guwahati Branch it was an extraordinary day as the BaaN was officially inaugurated. It started with a prayer led by our trainer F. S. Correa, followed by traditional breaking of a coconut. There was much joy and expectations from people who joined the celebrations with great enthusiasm. This followed the cutting of cakes.
S. P. Sarma, the Branch Manager, who was totally involved from day one of the training, formally switched on the system and started booking a quotation. Soon all the 5 PCs were occupied by people and there was no looking back after that.
Though we are far away from our Head office, geographically, we feel we are very near, since all the relevant information is at our fingertips today.
