he Safety Department of M/s. Godrej & Boyce was set up on 12 April, 1990. The Department celebrated its 15th anniversary on 12 April, 2005, at Plant 12, Conference Room.

P.D. Lam, Executive Director and President, Anil G. Verma, Executive Vice President, Personnel and Administration, Personnel Council members and Safety Council members attended the celebration.

The main objective of the celebration was to promote awareness of safety in the organisation, and to support and strengthen efforts in the safety field. Ramesh A. Bagi, Corporate Senior Manager — Safety, Health and Environment, briefed the gathering on accident statistics in the last 15 years. There was a 40 per cent reduction in the accident rate compared to the previous year. Bagi also outlined the various activities planned during the Safety Week Celebration.

Lam congratulated the team of safety professionals for their achievements in the field of safety, but added that the rate of accidents needs to be brought down even further.
Verma, in his speech, appreciated the efforts made by the safety team. "All Safety Officers are highly self-motivated and demonstrate their enthusiasm year after year," he said.

The anniversary cake was cut by Lam and Verma. Hemant Sheth, Associate Manager (Safety), proposed the vote of thanks.
