odrej Locks have had a presence in the Middle East for over a year now. As a step towards consolidating our position in the UAE and building up a closer relationship with our channel partners, we recently conducted a Retailer Meet in Dubai. This first-ever overseas Locks Retailer Meet was held at the Reviera Hotel, on 9 March, 2005. The event was jointly organised with M/s. Shama Traders LLC, our Locks distributor in the UAE.

Shama Traders LLC commenced its operations in Dubai four decades ago, and is one of the oldest locks trading companies in Dubai. They are based in Dubai's prime hardware market, which I believe is the busiest hardware market in this part of the world, frequented by buyers from various other countries.

The evening began with a welcome speech by Pushkar Gokhale, Head of Operations, Middle East, who briefed the audience on Godrej's Middle East operations and vision for the region. This was followed by a speech by K.N. Modi, General Manger (Sales and Marketing), who, while speaking about the history of Godrej Locks, also provided an insight into our values, culture and the philosophy of growing together — "Prosperity through Partnership". This was followed by the screening of a film on Godrej Locks. As most of the dealers in the hardware market are Indians and Pakistanis, we decided to screen the Hindi version of the corporate film. The screening was done in an interactive manner, wherein a product presentation was made showing the salient features of the range of Godrej Locks. The film, with its typically Indian "Hum Hain Godrej" theme, touched a lot of Indians present in the audience.

Modi then presented a memento to Mohammed Hussein and Shakir Hussein, Managing Partners, Shama Traders LLC, in appreciation of their efforts in promoting Godrej Locks in the UAE.

We are positive about the outcome of this maiden Retailer Meet, and will be carrying out similar initiatives in the future in other markets as part of the drive towards our dream of making Godrej a household name in the region.
