Unilever Visits Valia

nilever’s Global Supply Chain team comprising Roger Welsh and Dr. Martin Astley (U.K.), Milagros Saquin-Lintang (the Philippines) and Sriram Venkataraman (Hindustan Lever Limited, Mumbai), along with our very own Mathew Eipe, Executive Director and President (Chemicals), and Nitin Nabar, General Manager (Chemicals Marketing and Imports), visited our Valia Factory on 18 August, 2004.

The team was here to explore the possibility of sourcing Lauryl Alcohol from Godrej for Unilever worldwide.

In the introductory session, Bipin Mehta, Vice President (Valia Factory), briefed the team about operations and manufacturing facilities. Nabar gave an overview of sales and marketing.

The team was taken on a tour of the Valia Plant, which was followed by commemorative planting of trees on the premises.

Real Good Chicken Certified

eal Good Chicken, a prominent brand in the fresh chicken category in the Indian market, has received the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) and ISO 9001-2000 Certification by Det Norke Veritas (DNV), Mumbai, for its chicken processing Plant at Taloja near Mumbai. DNV, Mumbai, is the Indian branch of DNV Certification headquartered in the Netherlands.

With the Taloja Plant being awarded both the Certificates, it is now fully Food Safety Management System compliant. According to C.K. Vaidya, Managing Director, Godrej Agrovet Limited, "HACCP is a prevention-based food safety system. It provides a systematic method for analysing food processes, determining the possible hazards and designating the critical control points necessary to prevent unsafe food from reaching the consumer. HACCP is based on the Codex Alimentarius developed by the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations and the World Health Organisation. The standards set by DNV are the most stringent and accepted worldwide, and we are happy that our Taloja Plant has met the requirements."
