The Triple Thrill Camp |
had heard about the Triple Thrill Camp conducted by Dhumketu Trekkers, Mumbai, and was eager
to attend it. After the initial preparation, I was waiting
for the big day, the 9th
of April, 2004, which happened to be during the Second Semester Exams. Luckily,
the Udayachal High School authorities extended their full co-operation.
We started the journey by Intercity Express. From Pune, a three-and-a-half hour bus ride took us to the foothills of the Sahyadri range.
Post-lunch, we trekked for three hours to the Railing Plateau and rested that night.
The next day, I was ready with my harness for the main event — valley-crossing at 1,020 feet. I was on the rope with a descender and caribiner. I was locked till everything was ready on the pinnacle. The instructor got the message on his walkie-talkie. I was then unlocked and everyone present on the Plateau started cheering me. I was the youngest participant. It was thrilling. The moment I was in the middle of the valley, I stopped holding on to the harness belt till it was 950 feet of the ride and I reached the pinnacle safely. I am very happy that at such a young age I could participate in this daring event.
The next event was rock-climbing. I climbed 585 feet and rappelled 700 feet. I was so thrilled that I have no words to express my feelings!

Another feat awaited me — the most thrilling, fearful, adventurous trek at 7 p.m. from the foot of the Lingana Pinnacle. In spite of being the youngest, I was leading the way to the Plateau through the dark jungle. It was a wonderful experience.
We had a safe return journey to Mumbai by Intercity. I have enjoyed many trips, camps, treks, etc. in School. This one will be the most memorable experience because it not only gave me an opportunity for adventure, but also made me strong and tough.
