This letter might come as a bit of a surprise, but I’m sure, you would recall your call to Mr. Yogesh Patel of International Penfriends, regarding International Friendship Day, and the subsequent events which culminated in your article, ‘Friendship: God’s Most Precious Gift’, in your house magazine — (Change, July-August 2002, Vol.2, No.4).

Your article certainly made fascinating reading, but we were a little miffed that International Penfriends authorised Indian representatives, namely us, didn’t get even a passing mention.

If you are contemplating writing anything in a similar vein in the near future, to commemorate, say, National Youth Day (2nd January), Boy Scout Day (8th February), Valentines Day (14th February), or for that matter, even International Friendship Day (3rd August), a small mention of International Penfriends’ local chapter (in an appropriate way, of course), would go a long way in making amends. We could even send you appropriate copy.

Does your magazine, incidentally, accept unsolicited articles, specially those not written by insiders?

We are in receipt of your letter dated 2 January, 2003 referring to the article entitled “Friendship: God’s Most Precious Gift” which appeared in CHANGE, July-August 2002, Vol. 2, No. 4 issue.

CHANGE did not mention names of representatives of any country due to shortage of space. The article was primarily devoted to the founder of the International Penfriends Club and the importance of International Friendship Day, August 3.

However, we have made a mention of the India Chapter provided by Mr. Yogesh Patel thus: “IPF is non-political and non-sectarian, is self-funding and, in India, provides services since June 1992 in Hindi, English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish. It has its own Stamp Exchange Division with over 6,000 stamp-exchanging club members.”

We do accept unsolicited articles from outside the Company as well. However, the final decision of publishing them lies with the Editor.

Best wishes and greetings to you. I am a devoted, dedicated, task worker (House Journal study), in poor health but active even at the age of 75 years.

Your Editorial (Jan-Feb 2003 issue), “Population First”, is good and has my blessings.

Now consumers and sales centres, especially in Surat, must also be covered by CHANGE. Not only top consumers, but also the common man must be asked for his feedback on products. First start with Godrej sales. We are progressive with Karanjia.
